There's some part of him that recognizes that he and Dandelion are very alike. Honestly, if Yuri could (and if he hadn't known better), he would have done the same thing in his place and he knows it. However, since he did know better and it was his second trauma game in the last three days, he had already picked up the cautious mentality and deliberately aimed low because it would a) get Dandelion angry at him b) Distract him instead of getting depressed. It was a very calculated move on his part.
He does like Dandelion. He's just not sure of Dandelion's world. A lot of Yuri's memories (or even Yuri himself, the way he thinks of things) make the idea of Dandelion's world very cynical but he'll probably ease up on that. Yuri is a pretty self-aware character even when he's not particularly good at expressing his own feelings and keeping them in the dark.
